Tattoo Guns Price Would it really be that bad to get my cartilage pierced at walmart?
I really want to get my the top of my ear cartilage pierced, but at a tattoo parlor its going to cost me about $30 to get it done, whereas at walmart i could get it for a much cheaper price. The reason i wasn't going to go to walmart to get it done is because i have heard that they do it with the gun and a professional would be a better choice. Could someone who really knows what they're talking about tell me what my best bet would be?
thnx!! =0)
Yes, they do pierce with a gun. Do not go there. Spend the money to have it done professionally and with a needle, because that way you know for sure it's done right. Guns really need to be banned. You can't properly sterilize them, and the cleaning procedure is wiping the gun with alcohol. That's not enough. Not to mention you're forcing a blunt object through not only the skin, but cartilage, crushing and shattering it. That's going to hurt a lot more than a needle. The people that pierce with guns get like a crash course in piercing and really don't know what they're doing. They don't know anything about cross-contamination or blood-borne pathogens, and since you can't sterilize guns, you're risking that. The aftercare also sucks at those places and if something's wrong with your piercing, since they don't know their crap, you won't get the proper answers you need.
Go to the parlor because there, it's clean and the needle is sterile and one time use. After you get pierced with that, it's disposed of, so that diminishes the whole risk of contamination. Also, Wal-Mart never struck me as the cleanest of places, getting the parlor is going to be way cleaner environment. The needle will also hurt less, as the point is going to force the tissue to separate to make room for the jewelry rather than just flat out shoving it in there. If you have any questions about the aftercare and healing, the professional is going to be able to answer your questions more clearly and better than the others. They're trained to know about the body.
The aftercare procedure they will describe at the parlor is different from the people with the gun. They'll give you some crap solution and tell you to use that three times a day, and that really won't help the healing of your piercing. Clean your piercing with antibacterial soap twice a day (I recommend Satin since it isn't so harsh) and do a sea salt soak once a day. Mix non-iodized sea salt (iodine is why you can't use the regular table salt) in hot water until it tastes like tears and soak the piercing for about ten minutes. Sea salt will help draw out the impurities in the piercing. Do not use hydrogen peroxide or alcohol as those will kill the cells trying to heal the piercing, prolonging the healing period.
When it comes to your health, seriously, spend the extra money. You're less likely to run into a lot of complications if you get it done with a needle at the parlor.
